November Newsletter

The club was reminded that the Ski-Doo Million Dollar Club forms are due to Roger’s Sport Center by November 15th.

The raffle tickets are available. Remember this is not only the state fund raiser it is our fund raiser too. We get ½ of the money from the tickets we sell. The tickets are $10 each or 6 for $50. The prizes are:

Ø  1st Prize - $1000 Cabelas gift card

Ø  2nd Prize - $750 Cabelas gift card

Ø  3rd Prize - $500 Cabelas gift card

Ø  4th Prize - $50 Cabelas gift card (there will be 20 winners)

The Christmas Parade will be Thanksgiving weekend again this year. The club has decided not to do a float this year due to lack of interest.

The club is still trying to think of other items we can purchase from Cabelas with the gift card that was donated back to the club. We need to figure out if the card has any kind of expiration date so that we know how quickly we need to purchase additional items.

In other business:

Ryan Linhart, our new ranger, told the club about the Shoshone Forest and the Gallatin National Forest are joining together to put on a 2-day Avalanche seminar. The first day will be in a classroom setting and the second day will be in the Field. The seminar is scheduled for January 14th & 15th. The classroom day will start at noon at Mountain Valley Motorsports.  The cost of the class is $50 and there is a limit of 50 people. You can register for the class online at www.mtavalanche.com or for more information contact Ryan Linhart (Shoshone National Forest) at 307-578-5225 or Mike Kelly (Cody Country Snowmobile Association) at 307-899-7342.

Ryan mentioned that the Timber Sale is continuing on our back trail from the Pilot Creek parking area towards Squaw Creek. The logging company was reminded of the snowmobile trail and that they need to keep the trail clear. The logging company should be pulling out of the area around December 1st for the winter. Ryan also mentioned that the construction company up on the Beartooth highway is currently working on the guard rails. He said that they are continuing to plow the highway and he is trying to get them to stop plowing for the snowmobile season.

Lee Mackler told the club that a gal by the name of Cindy Briggs has leased the Fork & Spoon and she is planning on being open this snowmobile season. He said that she may be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but will certainly be open for the weekends. She has told him that if the club wants to have any events at the Fork & Spoon she is more than willing to do something if she has at least a couple of days notice.

Bert Miller gave the club an update about research he has been doing for a bag phone for the Safety Shelter. AT&T doesn’t have a bag phone themselves but there is a company that has Motorola bag phones that will work with AT& T service. However, the phone is about $600. While the club agrees that we need a phone up at the Safety Shelter there was discussion about how we need to go about getting one. Do we use the phone that Homeland Security already has or do we see is Homeland Security gets additional grant money to purchase the bag phone. Maybe this has to be a cooperative effort between Homeland Security, Search & Rescue and the club.

The Awards banquet has been tentatively scheduled for January 6th and then the club will have a chili feed on the mountain the following day. Rob Marshall has asked Bert to follow up with the Irma to see if that date is available. The dinner will be scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

We did not have a 50/50 raffle because we did not have any raffle tickets.

Our next meeting will be on December 7th at 6:30 p.m. at the Search and Rescue Hall. We will have a carry-in dinner.

Mike Kelly motioned to adjourn, Zach Hart second the motion. The meeting was adjourned.

Respectively submitted,

Brenda Miller
